Defense Logistics Agency Director Navy Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek visited DLA Energy Americas at San Pedro, Calif., Aug. 7.
Harnitchek’s visit allowed him gain a firsthand perspective on how the organization supports the warfighter and promotes stewardship excellence throughout the 11 states west of the Rocky Mountains.
"The men and women of DLA Energy Americas at San Pedro were honored to share our mission with the director,” said Air Force Lt. Col. Tam Gaffney, DLA Americas at San Pedro commander. “He got to see firsthand how well our team partners with our host Navy Weapons Station Seal Beach in maintaining our fuels infrastructure, safely and efficiently delivering quality fuel to the warfighters every day."
The visit was hosted by Gaffney and Army Col. Ronald Ross, DLA Energy Americas commander. Navy Capt. Tripp Hardy, Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach commanding officer, and Navy Capt. Willie Robohn, Naval Supply Systems Command Energy director, also attended.
The DLA director’s visit included a DLA Energy Americas at San Pedro overview briefing, followed by a discussion with Robohn and Hardy on the nature of the host-tenant relationship between Defense Fuel Support Point San Pedro, Naval Region Southwest and Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. The visit concluded with a thorough tour of DFSP San Pedro and the Long Beach Pier.
During the tour, Harnitchek saw the underground storage tanks containing JP5, JP8 and F76 supporting all military installations in southern California, Nevada and Arizona via pipeline, tank truck and barge.
